Prof. Aw Tar Choon brings unparalleled expertise and a distinguished career in laboratory medicine to his role as the Medical Director at Reste Laboratories. Prof. Aw holds senior roles at the Changi General Hospital in Singapore, serving as both senior consultant with the Department of Laboratory Medicine and the director of Chemical Pathology. He is also a clinical senior lecturer in Medicine at the National University of Singapore Yong Loo Lin School of Medicine.
Prof. Aw obtained his medical degree from the University of Malaya Medical School. He pursued further training in internal medicine at the Singapore General Hospital as well as the King’s College Hospital Medical School, London, UK. Prof. Aw also underwent extensive training in chemical pathology at the Department of Pathology Laboratory Medicine, Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania, Philadelphia, USA. Notably, he holds specialist certifications in Internal Medicine from NUS (M.Med) and the Royal College of Physicians UK (MRCP UK), along with a specialist certification in Chemical Pathology from the Royal College of Pathologists of Australasia (FRCPA).
Prof. Aw’s illustrious career is marked by leadership roles, including appointments such as Chief of Laboratory Medicine at the National University Hospital of Singapore and Medical Director of Alexandra Hospital. He served as a faculty staff member at the National University of Singapore Medical School for over two decades, attaining the rank of full professor in pathology and serving as its vice-dean between 1994 to 2002.
In addition to his contributions to medical education and clinical practice, Prof. Aw has shared his expertise internationally, serving as part-time faculty staff at Monash Medical School from 2006 to 2010, holding positions as Professor in Chemical Pathology for the Malaysia campus and Honorary Professor in Medicine for the Australia campus.
